Satisfying figs

I’m really pleased with how this fig painting turned out. I love working with gouache. It’s such a flexible and forgiving medium. To be honest, you need a lot more skill to use watercolour. With gouache, you can work at the colour until you’re happy with it – not something you can do with watercolour. I love figs because of their shape and colour. The only thing I have to combat is my husband’s liking for them. By the time I’d finished, there was only one fig left on the dish and I had to paint from a photo of on my iPhone.
